Welcome to the official site of the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority.
Created by the room tax legislation that first passed in 1983, the BCTDA is a quasi-governmental entity that oversees tourism marketing, sales and product development efforts and the expenditure of the county’s four percent occupancy tax revenues.
There are few industries that voluntarily tax themselves, yet the hoteliers in Buncombe County were among the first in North Carolina to do so, knowing that when used for the promotion of tourism, these revenues could stimulate increased visitation to the community.
The Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority, through it’s Tourism Product Development Fund (TPDF), has awarded more than $14 million to community tourism projects since 2001.
